Keith Fenn has a proven track record of over 30 years in designing and building the fastest ocean skis’ on the market today. That is why we at Ocean Sports are proud to be the sole UK Fenn agent.
What’s different between an ocean ski and a Surf Life Saving spec ski?
These two skis are worlds apart – one constrained by international racing committee rules by length, width and importantly weight (18kg) the other, a thorough bread designed to move effortlessly through open water conditions. It’s because of these skis’ I started paddling again; in fact they are so good I decided to import them!
We have a container full of Fenn skis, paddles and legendary paddling tops arriving early 2010. To reserve your equipment email me – glenn@oceansportuk.com .
Listed below is an overview of the skis.
- Introductory Double – Mako XT
- Intermediate / Expert Double – Mako Millennium
- Introductory – Fenn XT
- Intermediate / Expert – Fenn Mako 6
- Expert – Fenn Mako Elite
Introductory: Mako XT Double

An easier to paddle version of the ubiquitous stable-mate the Millennium Double, the XT Double features greater stability as well as fully adjustable fore and aft cockpits. If your looking to move forward with your paddling and would like to add a little more speed while remaining stable and safe this is the ski for you.
| Ski Model | Length (m) | Beam (cm) | Height (cm) | Weight (Kg) |
| Mako Double XT | 7.5 | 51.0 | 34.0 | 28.0 |
Intermediate/Expert: Mako Millennium Double

The Fenn Mako Millennium Double has won more races than any other double surfski in the world! I can personally vouch for the class of this ski as this is the model I paddled with Guy Blackford when we set a new record crossing to the Isle of Scilly from Lands End. This craft is literally borne for the water and moves effortlessly over chop and through the surf – watch this space for confirmation of the first British World Cup racing across to the Scillys next year using this ski.
| Ski Model | Length (m) | Beam (cm) | Height (cm) | Weight (Kg) |
| Mako Millennium Double | 7.5 | 49.0 | 34.00 | 28.0 |
Introductory: Fenn XT

For many years, the XT has been the de-facto standard in beginners’ skis. Even today, there are few entry-level skis to compare for comfort, strength and stability. Dawid Mocke should know – the founder of the first Surf ski School in South Africa chose Fenn XTs when it came time to replace the school’s fleet in 2008. “I’ve had years of experience teaching and watching beginner paddlers,” says Dawid, “and I can tell you – there is nothing to touch the XT.” The design of the XT has not stood still however: Keith recently improved the cockpit area and moved the rudder forward slightly to improve down wind performance.
| Ski Model | Length (m) | Beam (cm) | Height (cm) | Weight (Kg) |
| Mako XT | 5.88 | 49.00 | 31.00 | 17.00 |
Intermediate: Mako 6

The Mako6 proved a revelation for Fenn fans when it was launched early in 2006. With its superior stability, it was far easier to paddle than the Fenn Millennium, which up to then was the reigning top-end ski. With no sacrifice in hull speed and although aimed at the intermediate market, it proved an instant hit with top paddlers too with Dawid Mocke winning the US Champs, the Dubai Shamaal and New Zealand King of the Harbour in the ski. Paddling a ‘6′, Lewis Laughlin took the US Champs in 2007 as well the Molokai Challenge
| Ski Model | Length (m) | Beam (cm) | Height (cm) | Weight (Kg) |
| Mako6 | 6.44 | 44.00 | 33.00 | 17.00 |
Intermediate / Expert: Fenn Elite

The Mako Elite is the current top-of-the-range ski in the Fenn stable. Paddled by Dawid Mocke the Worlds number one ranked paddler 2009 / 2010 (#2 in the world, two years running) and Hank McGregor SA, Jeremy Cotter AUS, the ski has featured at the top of the results in almost every race, Dawid 2nd Dubai Shamal 2009.
Although designed to be narrower and faster (and consequently slightly less stable), the ski has proved to have very similar stability to the Mako 6 and is extremely popular with intermediate level paddlers who have reported an improvement in stability and performance. Compared with the Mako 6, the Elite’s cockpit is slightly further aft, while the rudder has been moved forward – to improve handling in down wind conditions. With less rocker than the ‘6′, the ski is faster on flat water and, according to Dawid Mocke, handles better in waves. “It seems to be less effort to maintain high speed in this ski,” he said.
