Meet the Coach
Coach Biography:
My Ethos:
My passion for the ocean has led to over 20 years of international racing and coaching practice, underpinned with a Masters Degree in Sport Science – currently I am study as BASES Sport Scientist.
Passion is one thing knowledge is another - I have been privileged to have coached hundreds of people in a variety of ocean sports over 20 years and fortunate enough to have played a part in several athletes training who have gone on to become European Champions or World medallists.
I strive to consistantly continue to learn about sport and coaching. Each day presents a new and intriguing puzzle to be solved or a challenge to be met. I am by no means an expert, I merely would like to help others to experience what they are capable of.
“very few people truly know what they are capable of…”
Sir Roger Bannister (first person to break 4min mile)
As an Athlete:
I have been fortunate to have raced Internationally in three sports for over 20 years (Surf Ironman, Sprint Kayak Olympic racing squad and now Long Distance Surf Ski) achieving a World title in long distance surf ski (Masters, Daytona, Florida, 2002) and several European medals and titles (surf life saving). The pinnacle of my sporting achievement in sprint kayak was being involved in attempting to qualify Great Britain for the Athens Olympics in the K4 (four man kayak) 1000m (we were not fast enough)!
My sense of the ocean has been honed while working as a beach lifeguard on the beaches of Newquay for over 12 years and given me an understanding of the respect needed in any sea condition. I completed my undergraduate and Masters in Sport Science at Brunel University, West London – specialising in exercise physiology and sport psychology.
